Heavy periods can be exhausting. Whether you’re dealing with unpredictable bleeding, painful periods, or the changes that come with perimenopause, you don’t have to simply put up with it.
At Moss Health, we offer Mirena IUD placement right here in our Gillette office.
Mirena Isn’t Just for Birth Control
Many women are surprised to learn that Mirena can do much more than prevent pregnancy.
Mirena is FDA-approved to treat heavy menstrual bleeding for up to five years. It releases a small amount of progestin directly into the uterus, helping thin the uterine lining and reduce menstrual bleeding.
For some women, periods become significantly lighter or even stop altogether.
And yes, Mirena may be an option even if you’ve already had your tubes tied and don’t need contraception!
A Great Option During Perimenopause
As hormones fluctuate during perimenopause, periods can become heavier, longer, or more unpredictable.
Mirena can be a valuable part of managing these changes. It may also provide the progestin component of menopausal estrogen therapy in selected patients, although this particular use is off-label in the United States.
Of course, not every woman is a candidate. Heavy or abnormal bleeding should be appropriately evaluated before deciding on treatment.
Convenient Care, Right Here at Moss Health
You don’t necessarily need a separate gynecology appointment for an IUD.
As a board-certified family medicine physician, I provide women’s healthcare, including Mirena IUD insertion, alongside routine primary care, hormone management, and preventive services.
I love being able to offer these services in a familiar, comfortable setting where patients already receive their healthcare.
